Andreas Lie’s Double Exposure Animal Photography Fuses Nature And Nurture

Andreas Lie Double Exposure

From the Land of the Midnight Sun came to us a series of animal portraits so stunning that they took our breath away. Norwegian visual artist Andreas Lie fuses animals of the wild with verdant landscapes in his exquisite collection of portraits. Using two distinct photographs, he creates a double exposure effect through which trees, mountains and water blend into the bodies of animals. The texture of trees such as the evergreens definitely works in his favour because they mimic the shaggy fur of wolves, bears and foxes so flawlessly.

Andreas Lie’s work is believed to be heavily influenced by his surroundings in Bergen, Norway, which is a beautiful coastal city surrounded by mountains. The fusion of snowy mountains and thick forests with the silhouettes of wild creatures exudes harmony in a subtle yet beautiful way. While these portraits look undoubtedly surreal, the perfect fusion of flora within fauna gives them a natural guise.

This series adds a fascinating twist on the relationship between animals and nature. Trees, mountains and bodies of water which normally provide habitation to wild animals are seen residing within the silhouettes of these very animals. This role reversal conveys the idea of being one with nature in a beautifully understated way.

Lie’s combination of visually disparate elements of nature gives off an undercurrent of contrast which would make his work fit right in with global artists who play with dichotomy in art. We’ve put together a gallery of select works from his series for you to peruse. Our favourite has to be the one with the Northern Lights shining from within the torso of a polar bear. Which one tickles your fancy?

The entire collection can be viewed on his Tumblr page. Andreas Lie also offers these for sale in the form of framed prints, tote bags, wall clocks and many other objects via Society6.
